SALT LAKE CITY – Led by Jane Hedengren’s first-place mark of 19:06.60, the No. 1 Cougars finished second in the NCAA Mountain Regionals at the Regional Athletic Complex, earning a bid to next week’s NCAA Championship.
For the third-straight race, the freshman finished at the top of the leaderboard, this time by over 42 seconds. After racing closely with New Mexico’s Pamela Kosgei, Hedengren pulled away and kept extending the gap from there.
The team finished with 47 points, two behind the Lobos. Northern Arizona took third with 76 and Colorado and Utah rounded out the top five with 106 and 120 points.
BYU’s second runner was third-place Riley Chamberlain with her 19:52.80. In all five races this season, the Loomis, California native has notched a podium finish.
All of the Cougars’ top five runners were among the top 20. Senior Taylor Rohatinsky took ninth with her 20:28.10 with Carmen Alder and Lexi Goff-Thompson taking 16th and 18th, respectively.
