PROVO, Utah – After beating Utah to close out the regular season, the BYU women’s soccer team earned the final spot in the Big 12 Soccer Tournament Presented by Allstate, kicking off in Fort Worth, Texas Monday afternoon.

BYU and the Big 12 Tournament
Since joining the Big 12 conference in 2023, the Cougars have been to all three conference tournaments. In 2023, the Cougars fell to Texas in the championship match 3-1. Last year, BYU lost to TCU, 2-1 in a semifinal game. BYU enters the 2025 Big 12 Soccer Tournament with its lowest seed, No. 8, since joining the conference.
THE COUGARS. BYU women’s soccer (9-5-3, 4-5-2 Big 12) won its final game of the regular season 2-0 in a Big 12 rivalry matchup at Utah. Freshman Mia Lopez scored one of the goals, her sixth of the season and her second-consecutive game with a goal. Senior Mackenzee Vance tallied BYU’s second goal, her second on the year. Paiton Collins went down with an injury at the end of the first half, bringing Utah transfer Chelsea Peterson into the game to close it out. She tallied the second-half shutout with three saves for the Cougars.
THE HORNED FROGS. No. 5 TCU (15-2-1, 9-1-1 Big 12) has won the Big 12 regular season title in back-to-back seasons, and four times in the past six years. After going 9-1-1 in Big 12 play this year, the Horned Frogs came into the Big 12 tournament with the No. 1 seed. TCU closed out its regular season with a 2-0 victory against Houston. The Horned Frogs are on a five-game win streak, outsourcing their opponents 11-2.
COUGARS VS. HORNED FROGS. BYU and TCU have faced 13 times, with the Cougars holding a 9-3-1 series lead. However, the Cougars have not beaten the Horned Frogs since 2010. Since joining the Big 12 conference, BYU’s record against TCU is 0-2-1. The teams last played each other in a Semifinal match at the 2024 Big 12 tournament, when the Horned Frogs beat the Cougars 2-1.
