ORLANDO — After going 5–0 on their way to an ITA Regional Championship in Las Vegas, Adam Chodur and Otto Schreiner suffered an opening-round loss to North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament.
The 6–1, 6–2 defeat came at the hands of UNC’s Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer, who entered the match with a 9–2 overall doubles record together.
“Congratulations to UNC. Those are two great players who came out and played clean and decisive doubles,” BYU head coach Zack Warren said. “I know Otto and Adam wanted to maximize their opportunity here and are disappointed with the result, but they’ll take this incredible experience, learn from it and be better going forward because of it.”
This was the second year in a row BYU was represented in this top tournament, which coach Warren emphasized shows the continued growth of the program.
“It was exciting to have BYU representation at the national championships for the second consecutive year," Warren said, "something we will continue to look to build on.”
With the fall season now concluded, the Cougars will turn their attention to January 17, when they host Weber State in their home opener.
