WALNUT, Calif. – BYU finished its weekend in California on a high note as the 4x400-meter relay ran the second-fastest time in program history in the final event of the Mt. SAC Relays.
The quartet of Eli Hazlett, Josh Taylor, Jonah Heimuli and Trey Jackson became just the fourth 4x400-meter relay in program history to break 3:04 as they ran 3:03.05 to finish fourth.
On the final day of the Beach Invitational on the campus of Long Beach State, Jaden Roskelley set a massive personal best in the long jump. The sophomore jumped 7.75m/25-5.25 with a legal wind (+0.5) on his sixth and final attempt of the competition to secure the victory. Prior to Saturday, Roskelley had never recorded a jump over 24 feet during his two seasons as a Cougar.
Beach Invitational
Danny Bryant picked up his second win of the week in the shot put. The senior’s mark of 19.42m/63-8.75 on his first attempt of the competition was more than five inches further North Dakota’s Ethan Thomas.
The native of Valenica, Calif. concluded the weekend with a runner-up finish in the discus with a mark of 54.52m/178-10. Much like the shot put, his best mark of the competition came on his first attempt.
Connor Saunders finished eighth in the high jump with a clearance of 2.03m/6-8 on his second attempt. Teammates Carter Walker and Hayden Gribble also cleared 2.03m/6-8 but needed three attempts to do so as they finished 10th and 11th respectively.
Austin Cox finished in a tie for 11th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.99m/16-4.5.
Mt. SAC Relays
Taylor also competed in the open 400-meters for the first time during the outdoor season finishing 16th in a time of 46.56. Riley Hunt recorded a 16th place finish in the 110-meter hurdles as he broke 14 seconds for the first time this season in 13.88.
Dallin Draper would record a 19th place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.54.
