THE COUGARS. No. 23 BYU last competed against ASU at Desert Financial Arena on Friday, Jan. 23. The Cougars dropped their first Big 12 meet of the season to the Sun Devils, 196.050-195.200, their lowest score of the year. Despite the loss, BYU tied its season-high vault score of 48.975. BYU faced the Wildcats in Tucson, Arizona last season, dropping the road meet to then-No. 22 Arizona 196.775-195.800. Arizona leads the overall series record 17-3. The last time the Cougs beat the Wildcats was in 2022.
THE WILDCATS. Arizona last competed against Towson at the McKale Center on Friday, Jan. 23. Arizona earned its season-best team score of 196.800 to take down Towson. The Wildcats swept the event winners against Towson, with Abigayle Martin winning the top spot on podium for beam (9.9), floor (9.95) and the all-around (39.450). The GymCats notched 10 career highs and 11 season highs to beat Towson 196.800-195.400. Friday’s meet will be Arizona’s first Big 12 matchup of the season.
