BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky — After winning game one of Friday's doubleheader, 3-2, BYU dropped game two to Western Kentucky, 5-2, at Nick Denes Field in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
SUMMARY
WKU (1-1) jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run by first baseman Lane Arroyos.
Following three and a half scoreless innings, the Hilltoppers picked up another run in the fifth on a solo blast by catcher Camden Ross for a 3-0 advantage. WKU tacked on two additional runs in the seventh on a walk, single and two-out double for a 5-0 lead.
BYU (1-1) scored two runs in the top of the ninth on a single by Schow, doubles by Ridge Erickson and Ezra McNaughton and RBIs by Bryker Hurdsman and Ryder Robinson for a final score of 5-2.
BYU pitchers Nate Gray, Bryant Ball and Ethan Zufall combined to surrender five runs on just five hits while striking out six Hilltoppers. The Cougars out-hit WKU nine to five but stranded 11 runners in the game-two loss.
