PROVO, Utah — BYU was selected as the No. 1 seed in the 2026 Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament and will host the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Thursday at the Marriott Center, the WBIT Selection Committee announced on Sunday night.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Spencer Linton and Kristen Kozlowski on the call. Game time for Thursday's matchup will be announced later.
"Despite being left out of the NCAA Tournament field, I am grateful for the opportunity that our team has to continue our season in the WBIT," head coach Lee Cummard said. "Earning a spot in the postseason is always the goal for our team, and getting the opportunity to play in the Marriott Center again is always a blessing. We look forward to facing a good Alabama A&M team on Thursday and getting back to playing BYU basketball."
The Cougars will make the program's second appearance in the WBIT, having played in the inaugural tournament in 2024. BYU faced Santa Clara on the road in the opening round, dropping the contest 60-59.
Under first-year head coach Lee Cummard, the Cougars finished the regular season 22-11 and 9-9 in the Big 12, their most wins since the 2021-22 season and best conference finish since entering the league in 2023.
BYU closed the season winning five of its final six games, with wins on the road at Utah, at Arizona State, at home over Colorado, and over Houston and Utah in the Big 12 Tournament first and second rounds. Their only loss came to No. 10 TCU in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinal.
