BYU went 3-1 during its Big 12 bye last week, beating Abilene Christian (10-1, 5) in its home opener before going 2-1 at Utah Tech's Trailblazer Classic, with wins against the host Trailblazers (10-1, 5) and Omaha (9-8), avenging a 9-0 no-hit loss to the Mavericks on day one of the tournament.

The Cougars (8-18, 0-3 Big 12) hit .364 on the week and .329 in St. George, with seven hitters posting averages of .300 or better across the four games: Bre Townsend (.625), Danica Acosta (.556), Hailey Shuler (.545), Hailey Morrow (.375), Lily Owens (.364), Rita Tavita (.333) and Kaiya Fabela (.333).

Scoring 10 runs twice last week, BYU also tied its season high in hits (14) and at-bats (33) in the win over Omaha, which was also the Cougars' first victory this season when trailing going into the seventh inning.

Leading by as many as four runs, BYU faced a 7-6 deficit after surrendering a grand slam to the Mavericks in the bottom of the sixth. Following a leadoff Morrow walk, Townsend sent the second pitch she saw to right center to put the Cougars in front for good.

Fabela launched a solo shot to left center five pitches later, the first home run of her freshman season and a valuable insurance run in the 9-8 win. BYU homered five times in the contest, with Morrow and Townsend adding two apiece.

Ranking in the bottom quadrant of the Big 12 statistical metrics, the Cougars are No. 66 nationally in strikeouts per seven innings (5.52), which is fourth best in the Conference.

Individually, Ilove'a Brittingham's five runners caught stealing and Jada Villegas' two saves are good for second in the league, while Owens' five hit by pitches and 0.69 walks per game sit at fourth in the Big 12.

Heading to Stillwater for just the second time in series history, BYU resumes Conference play at OSU.
