MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – No. 20 ranked West Virginia defeated BYU 11-1 Saturday day in the final game a three-game Big 12 baseball series at Kendrick Family Ballpark. 

WVU (16-4) racked up 11 runs on nine hits while stranding 11. BYU (10-12) scored one run on five hits while leaving seven on base.

Summary
After a scoreless first frame, West Virginia jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with four runs on three hits and two unique stolen bases at home. 

The Mountaineers added another run in the bottom of the fifth on a triple and a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 5-0. 

A leadoff home run from Crew McChesney in the top of the sixth got BYU on the board, cutting the lead to 5-1. Three runs on two walks and two hits in bottom of the seventh broke the game open for WVU as the Mountaineers then walked off the Cougars with three more runs in the eighth for an 11-1 final. 

Reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week Maxx Yehl struck out 11 Cougars over 7.0 innings for the win. Meanwhile BYU sophomore Ezra McNaughton, who is hitting .413 on the year with a .481 on base percentage, had his impressive 20-game hitting streak come to end.

BYU will return to Utah and face the Utes in a midweek non-conference game on March 24 at the recently completed America First Ballpark in Salt Lake City. The Cougars will then welcome Oklahoma State to Provo for a weekend series, March 26-28.
