PROVO, Utah – BYU softball fell to the Kansas, 10-3, in game three of its series on Saturday afternoon at Gail Miller Field.
Despite taking the initial lead in the second inning, the Cougars (11-22, 2-7 Big 12) allowed five sixth-inning runs.

Jada Villegas got BYU out of a two-runner-on-base situation with a groundout in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, Danica Acosta singled to send Hailey Morrow home. An out on the next batter held the Cougars to a one-run lead going into the third inning.
Action continued in the third when Kansas’ Ella Boyer homered to deep right, driving in Presley Limbaugh from first to give the Jayhawks a 2-1 lead. Hailey Cripe followed with a solo home run to extend the lead to two runs.
Bre Townsend sent Ilove’a Brittingham home to pull BYU within one in the bottom of the third.
Kansas added another home run in the fourth, along with an RBI, to push its lead to 5-2.
After a scoreless fifth, Limbaugh doubled down the left field line to drive in a run from second base and make it 6-2. Cripe then drove in Limbaugh, and Anna Soles followed by bringing Cripe home. The Jayhawks added two more runs on a home run and an RBI to take an eight-run lead after the sixth.
Acosta hit her second career home run, and her second in as many days, in the sixth to make it 10-3, marking BYU’s first run after two scoreless innings. A scoreless seventh for both teams ended the game, 10-3, securing the series win for Kansas.

BYU will travel to Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock, Texas for a series against No. 2 Texas Tech from Apr. 2-Apr. 4. Game one is set for 5 p.m. MST and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
