ATLANTA – BYU’s Tanner Nelson completed competition at the NCAA Championships hosted by Georgia Tech Friday.

“I’m incredibly proud of Tanner and the gutsy performance he delivered at the NCAA Championships this week,” head coach Tamber McAllister said. “Since returning from his mission, he’s worked tirelessly to climb back to the national stage, and he’s done it with determination and class. I’m excited to see his continued upward trajectory this summer and next season."

Nelson competed in three different events, swimming the 500 freestyle, 1,650 freestyle and 400 individual medley.

Wednesday
Competition began with the 1,650 freestyle, where Nelson earned 25th overall at 15:01.40. Competing in the first heat, he came in second and secured his fastest performance in the event this season.

Thursday
Nelson swam the 400 individual medley, coming in 33rd overall at 3:45.62, his fourth-best time this season.

Friday
The concluding event of Nelson’s slate was the 500 freestyle. He came in 40th overall, hitting the wall at 4:19.41.
