NEW ORLEANS – Riley Chamberlain and Jane Hedengren earned spots on The Bowerman’s third watch list, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Bowerman, named after legendary track and field coach and Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, was first awarded in 2009 and is presented annually to the top male and female collegiate track and field athletes.
This marks the first time in her career that Chamberlain has earned a spot on the list. She did so after setting the NCAA all-time record in the mile with her 4:20.61 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. She also added a Big 12 title in the 800-meter at the Big 12 Championships. Chamberlain took third overall in the 3000m with an 8:56.28.
Hedengren has been named to the watch list for the third straight time this season. The true freshman earned the honor after winning the Big 12 title in the 3000m with an 8:46.11 and finishing runner-up in the mile. Hedengren is the only freshman on the list.
Chamberlain and Hedengren are the only representatives from the same school on this watch list.
