PROVO, Utah — No. 72 BYU men’s tennis fell 4-1 in its final home match to No. 27 Arizona State.

This edition of Senior Night, BYU said its farewells to three Cougars: Adam Chodur, Alex Edmonston and Redd Owen. Head coach Zack Warren spoke postgame about their contributions to the team and university.

“It was great celebrating the seniors today. We’re so grateful for their many contributions to our program,” Warren said. “They are fantastic representatives of our university and have incredibly bright futures and will continue to make a difference and positive impact in their community and beyond. We’re so excited for them.”

With the loss, the Cougars move to 4-3 in Provo and 13-8 on the season, with one match remaining Saturday in Salt Lake City against Utah.

On Court One, Otto Schreiner and Adam Chodur went back and forth with Arizona State, tying the score at 3-3 after trailing on three separate occasions. The duo then took a 5-3 lead with a 40-love hold. After the Sun Devils answered with three straight points to close the gap to 5-4, Chodur and Schreiner finished off the court with a 6-4 win, clinching their first Big 12 doubles victory of the season.

Court Two featured a similar pattern, with TJ Wells and Tygen Goldammer evening the score twice to make it 2-2 before winning two straight games to take a 4-2 lead. Arizona State responded to tighten the gap, but BYU closed out the court 6-3 with two more wins.

With victories on the first two courts, Court Three went unfinished at 4-4, giving the Cougars their first doubles point at home since Feb. 21 and first overall since March 19 against UCF.

Leading 1-0 heading into singles, Arizona State gained momentum with four opening-set wins. Goldammer earned a 6-1 set win, while Yubel Ubri battled back from a 5-3 deficit — including trailing 40-0 — to even the set at 5-5 on his way to a 7-5 opening-set victory.

The Sun Devils secured the match 4-1 with straight-set wins on the four other courts, finishing with a 6-3 win over Hasler. Goldammer and Ubri’s matches went unfinished with one set apiece.

BYU will conclude its regular season Saturday at 4 p.m. MT at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center against Utah.
