PROVO, Utah – BYU baseball dropped a non-conference game to Utah Tech 9-4 on Monday evening at Miller Park.
BYU (20-19) was outhit 13-5, while Utah Tech (27-14) had five two-out RBI to the Cougars one. Despite the loss BYU won the season series over UTU 2-1.

Summary
After leading off the first inning with hits on their first two at-bats, the Trailblazers got on the scoreboard first on a double steel of second and home. UTU increased its lead to 2-0 on the next play with a sacrifice fly to center field bringing in a runner from third. The Trailblazers picked up another run on a bunt combined with a throwing error to first base for a 3-0 lead.
Utah Tech pushed the score to 7-0 in the top of the second with four runs on four hits including a three-run home run with two outs.
The Cougars got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, with a Patrick Graham double and a Tu'alau Wolfgramm infield ground ball RBI to cut the lead to 7-1.
UTU tacked on another run in the top of the fourth before BYU responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. The first came on a UTU error that allowed Ryder Robinson to score, then Keoni Painter tripled to right field bringing in Cooper Jones from second base and shrinking the Utah Tech lead to 8-3.
The Trailblazers pushed the lead to 9-3 with a run on two hits in the fifth. BYU picked up a run in the seventh on a Luke Anderson ground ball that scored Ridge Erickson for what ended up being the final score of 9-4.
