PROVO, Utah – Isaac Hedengren set the No. 7 record in the 5000-meter at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell on Field Friday evening.

Isaac Hedengren set his second outdoor BYU top ten record finishing the 5000m run in 13:28.55 to claim the No. 7 spot on the record board. The junior placed tenth in his heat improving his personal-best by more than 12 seconds. The Provo native was joined by Noah Jenkins who finished in 13:35.86 to take 15th in his heat and Hunter Kitchen who came across in 13:37.26 and took fifth in his heat. 

Carter Cutting claimed another first place career finish after winning his heat of the 1500-meter in a time of 3:41.32. Tayvon Kitchen took tenth in his heat coming across in a time of 3:41.42, just a tenth of a second behind Cutting. The duo was joined in the event by Brayden Packard and Caleb Johnson.

Friday saw Garrett Copelin come across the line in the 110m hurdles in 14.03 seconds. A time that if not for the wind aid would have put him at the No. 8 spot on the BYU all-time performance chart just behind current teammate Logan Hubler. The sophomore took 16th overall in the event.

Sophomore Carson Riner threw just 0.09 meters shy of a personal record in the javelin throw with a 69.05m/226-6 mark that helped him finish second in the event. The Eltopia, Washington product currently holds the No. 7 all-time BYU record in the javelin throw. Brinton Paulson competed alongside Riner finishing fifth with a throw of 65.41m/214-7.

Tyler Poole finished second in the shot put with a toss of 17.14m/56-2.75. The sophomore also competed in the discus alongside Mark Bryant where Poole finished seventh and Bryant finished eighth.

Silas Zimmerman took fourth in the pole vault with a height of 5.10m/16-8.75. He was joined by Dallin Thornton, who finished ninth with a height of 4.95m/16-2.75.

Friday, Erik Bryant set a new personal record in the shot put with a mark of 16.00m/52-6 that finished him eighth. The freshman’s brother Mark Bryant made his collegiate debut in the hammer throw setting a mark of 51.93m/170-4 to take eighth.

The freshman brothers also competed on Thursday in the discus where Mark Bryant improved his personal best throw with a 53.64m/176-0 performance that finished him fifth. Erik Bryant finished 14th and fellow thrower Tyler Poole finished ninth.

Up Next

Mark Bryant will compete in the Shot Put at the Texas Relays on April 4. The Cougars will then look to compete at the Brian Clay Multis at Cougar Athletic Stadium in Azusa, California on April 9-10 and at the Weber State Spring Open at Chick Hislop Outdoor Track in Ogden on April 10-11.
