Summary
Utah got on the board first with a solo homer to center two batters into the contest. TBYU responded in the bottom of the first on Luke Anderson hustle double, followed by a RBI-single by Easton Jones to drive home Anderson.
After a scoreless second inning by both teams, the Utes tacked on two more runs on three hits in the third to retake the lead, 3-1. Utah tacked on another run in the fourth on its second solo home run of the game.
In the fifth, BYU’s deficit grew to four as Utah put up a run on three hits in the frame to extend its lead to 5-1 halfway through the ballgame.
Utah recorded its third solo blast of the game in the sixth to increase its lead to 6-1. To this point BYU had a runner on base in every inning, but was only capitalized in the bottom of the first. The deficit grew to seven after Utah scored on a two-out double in the eighth and on a RBI single in the ninth for runs seven and eight, giving the Utes at least one run in seven of the nine innings.
The Cougars failed to get a runner on base in the bottom of the ninth for the first inning of the night, giving Utah an 8-1 win.
