Kitchen, Hedengren go sub four minutes in the mile at Robison Invitational

Tayvon Kitchen and Isaac Hedengren became the sixth and seventh ever to run under four minutes in the mile within the state of Utah Friday afternoon at the Robison Invitational at Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex.

PROVO, Utah – Tayvon Kitchen and Isaac Hedengren became the sixth and seventh ever to run under four minutes in the mile within the state of Utah Friday afternoon at the Robison Invitational at Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex.

Kitchen finished first in 3:59.17, the third fastest time in the state ever just behind Doug Padilla’s 3:57.23 performance in 1983 and Casey Clinger’s 3:59.02 in 2024. Hedengren finished just behind the true freshman in a time of 3:59.69, becoming the seventh to finish under four minutes in Utah.

Carter Cutting set the No. 7 all-time BYU record in the 800-meter, crossing the line first overall in 1:47.02, a personal improvement of more than a second and a half. The junior now sits on the record board in four different events at BYU including the school record in the indoor mile. 

The Wilsonville, Oregon product was joined in the event by Brayden Packard who finished third overall in a personal-record 1:48.01. The sophomore improved his personal best time by over a second and a half crossing the line in a time that sits just outside the top ten at BYU. Isaac Teeples also competed in the event finishing ninth in a time of 1:54.24.
