Taylor named USTFCCCA Mountain Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year

Associate director of track & field Diljeet Taylor was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Mountain Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year following the outdoor season, the organization announced Thursday.

NEW ORLEANS – Associate director of track & field Diljeet Taylor was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Mountain Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year following the outdoor season, the organization announced Thursday.

Taylor coached Taylor Lovell to a title in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Lovell became the second 3000m steeplechase national champion under Taylor, joining Courtney Wayment (2022). In addition to Lovell's First Team All-America honors, Taylor helped coach Jane Hedengren, Jenna Hutchins, Raygan Peterson, Carmen Alder and Carlee Hansen-Thompson to a combined four First Team and two Second Team All-America honors..

She also helped Hedengren to two NCAA records in the outdoor 5000m and 10,000m, respectively. The true freshman ran 14:50.50 in the 5000m and 30:46.80 in the 10,000m.

Taylor’s women finished runner-up in the Big 12 Championships. Hedengren and Lovell each posted a title performance, Hedengren in the 5000m and Lovell in the 3000m steeplechase.

This marks the second time that Taylor has received the regional honor following the outdoor season.
