Five Cougar golfers earn Big 12 Spring Academic Team honors

IRVING, Texas — Five BYU men’s golfers — Peter Kim, Angus Klintworth, Simon Kwon, Jackson Mauss and Tyson Shelley — earned Academic All-Big 12 honors, the conference announced Tuesday.

To be named to the Big 12 Spring Academic Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 GPA or higher, either cumulative or over the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 20% of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen are not eligible, while transfers in their first year of academic residence are eligible. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria, except the percent of participation, are also eligible.

Peter Kim

Kim, a business management major, appeared in 14 events during the 2025-26 season with a 71.43 scoring average. The junior recorded seven top-25 finishes and earned his second-career win at The Tindall with rounds of 68-67-67 for a 14-under total. Kim also carded an 11-under 61 in the final round of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational to earn a runner-up finish.

Angus Klintworth

Klintworth, an information systems major, competed in four events this season with a 72.5 scoring average. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native notched his best finish at the Bridgestone Collegiate, posting scores of 74-70-68 to finish in a tie for 20th.

Simon Kwon

Simon Kwon

Kwon posted a 70.88 scoring average, the best of his collegiate career, while appearing in all 14 events during his senior season. A graduate of the Marriott School of Business finance program, he notched eight top-25 marks, including five top-10 finishes and four results of fifth or better. His season-high finish came at The Tindall, where Kwon posted a 10-under total with rounds of 67-71-68 to finish tied for third.

Jackson Mauss

Jackson Mauss

Mauss, who returned last summer from serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Côte d’Ivoire Abidjan East Mission, made seven starts during his first campaign with the Cougars. He posted his best finish of 33rd at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate with a 1-over total. Mauss carded a career-low 18-hole score of 3-under at Pasatiempo Golf Club during the final round of the 79th Western Intercollegiate.

Tyson Shelley

Tyson Shelley

Shelley, a four-year starter for the Cougars, posted a 72.33 scoring average during his final season in Provo. The communications major started in 13 of 14 events, earning six top-25 marks. Shelley’s highest finish was a third-place effort at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate with rounds of 69-68-68. The now-graduate finished his career with 18 top-25 finishes, eight top-15s, seven top-10s and four top-five finishes.
