NEW ORLEANS - Jane Hedengren was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year, the organization announced Monday afternoon.

Hedengren earned First Team Academic All-America honors after winning national titles in the 3000m and 5000m at the NCAA National Championships. The true freshman set a championship record of 15:00.12 in the 5000m to defeat defending champion Alabama’s Doris Lemngole and added an 8:36.31 victory in the 3000m, crossing the line more than seven seconds ahead of the field.

The Provo, Utah product opened her collegiate career by setting the NCAA record in the 5000m with a 14:44.79 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 6, 2025. She later ran the second-fastest 3000m in NCAA history at the 118th Millrose Games with an 8:34.98 before closing the regular season with the third-fastest mile in NCAA history at 4:22.22.

Hedengren also claimed the Big 12 title in the 3000m and finished runner-up in the mile, scoring 18 points to help BYU to a runner-up finish at the conference championships.

The freshman is an undecided major that holds a 3.77 GPA. This is the first time a BYU woman has been awarded the indoor accolade.
