FARMINGTON, Utah — BYU golfer Whitney Banz fell in her quarterfinal match Wednesday at the 120th Utah Women’s State Amateur Championship at Oakridge Country Club.
Banz started the match with an early lead, winning Nos. 1, 5 and 8 and moving to 3 up. Rylee Salome responded by winning No. 9, cutting Banz’s advantage to 2 up after the front nine. Salome took holes 12, 16 and 17 to take a 1-up lead before the players halved No. 18, giving the New Mexico State golfer a 1-up victory.
The quarterfinal appearance tied Banz’s deepest run in the championship and marked her best finish since 2021.
Six-time champion Kelsey Chugg advanced to the final with a 2-and-1 semifinal victory. She will face Westminster golfer Ashley Lam, who won her semifinal match in 19 holes.
