PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s soccer team takes on No. 9 UCLA on Wednesday evening at Wallis Annenberg Stadium to open the 2026 season.

THE COUGARS. BYU women’s soccer (0-0, 0-0 Big 12) played its lone exhibition game against Idaho State on Saturday, Aug. 8, at South Field. The Cougars won 5-1, courtesy of three first-half goals. Afton Perry tallied a brace, and Ellie Walbruch, Mia Goettsche and Kate Fuller each added a goal. Mika Krommenhoek assisted on BYU’s first three goals, while Presley Freeman added two assists of her own. BYU outshot Idaho State 22-3, with 10 shots on frame. 

THE BRUINS. UCLA (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten) hosted LMU on Wednesday, Aug. 5, in an exhibition contest at Wallis Annenberg Stadium to prepare for the season opener against BYU. UCLA returns five starters from last year’s squad and welcomes seven transfers, including three international players from Brazil, Mexico and Canada. 

COUGARS VS. BRUINS. The overall series between BYU and UCLA is tied 4-4-2. The teams faced off twice last year, once in the regular season at South Field and once in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. BYU defeated UCLA 1-0 at South Field, but the teams tied 1-1 in the tournament. The Cougars advanced on penalty kicks, facing Stanford in the Sweet 16. BYU star forward Ellie Walbruch played her freshman season at UCLA, winning a national title with the team before transferring to BYU as a sophomore. Former BYU goalkeeper Lynette Bryant now plays for the Bruins.
