Lundell and Kwon sit in second at 2026 Utah Open

PROVO, Utah — Former BYU men’s golfers Carson Lundell and Simon Kwon are tied for second at 14-under after two rounds of the 2026 Larry H. Miller Utah Open at Riverside Country Club on Saturday.

Lundell and Kwon lead seven Cougars in the Top 10, while 21 BYU golfers made the cut heading into Sunday’s final round of stroke play.

Lundell opened the tournament with a 9-under 63, highlighted by seven birdies and an eagle. He made birdies on Nos. 1, 5 and 7 before adding four more on the back nine. Lundell capped the round with an eagle on No. 16.

In the second round, Lundell made a bogey on No. 4 before responding with birdies on Nos. 5 and 7. He added an eagle on No. 13 and back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 to finish with a 5-under 67.

Recent graduate Simon Kwon carded an 8-under 64 in the opening round with eight birdies. After birdies on Nos. 2 and 5, he made three consecutive birdies on Nos. 7-9 before adding three more on the back nine.

Kwon made one birdie on the front nine in the second round before four consecutive birdies on Nos. 13-16. A birdie on the final hole gave him a 6-under 66.

Former Cougars Tyson Shelley and Rhett Rasmussen finished 36 holes at 13-under 131 to tie for fifth entering the final round.

Shelley, coming off an appearance in the Round of 64 at the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship on Wednesday, made nine birdies without a bogey to card a 9-under 63 in the opening round. He added five birdies, three bogeys and an eagle in the second round for a 4-under 68.

Rasmussen opened with a 6-under 66 before shooting a 7-under 65 in the second round. His second round included eight birdies, with five consecutive on Nos. 4-8.

Jackson Mauss and BYU alumnus Keanu Akina are tied for seventh at 12 under. Mauss, the top current Cougar on the leaderboard, shot consecutive rounds of 66. After opening with a 2-under 70, Akina made 10 birdies without a bogey in the second round to card a 10-under 62.

Parker Bunn rounded out the seven Cougars in the top 10 at 11-under with rounds of 67 and 66, including six birdies without a bogey in the second round.

Former Cougars Cole Ponich and Joseph Summerhays are tied for 14th at 9 under, while current BYU golfers Peter Kim, David Liechty and Angus Klintworth are tied for 20th at 8 under.

BYU alumni Clay Ogden and Justin Keiley each finished 36 holes at 7-under 137 to tie for 27th. Cole Ogden and Zac Jones finished at 6 under to tie for 33rd.

Kelton Hirsch shot 4 under and sits tied for 44th, while incoming freshman Austin Shelley and former Cougars David Timmins, Steve Schneiter and Ryan Rhees each finished at 2-under 142 to make the cut.

Incoming freshman Lincoln Markham and sophomore Cooper Jones missed the cut after finishing at even par and 2-over, respectively.

BYU alumni Mike Jurca, Dalton Stanger and Dave DeSantis, along with former men’s golf head coach Bruce Brockbank, also finished outside the cut line.

Former BYU women’s golfer Maddie White, one of four women competing in the tournament, also missed the cut.
