RIJEKA, Croatia – BYU men’s basketball associate head coach Tim Fanning led the Netherlands to the FIBA U18 EuroBasket Division B title on Sunday with a 69-57 win over Poland.
The Orange Lions went a perfect 8-0 in Croatia, capped off with the 12-point victory over a Polish side that finished second in their group. Fanning’s Netherlands squad was behind at halftime for a second straight game before outscoring Poland 37-26 to secure their second-ever EuroBasket title.
The Netherlands finished atop Group D after defeating Great Britain, Belgium, Finland, Cyprus and Ireland by a combined 90 points. They averaged a tournament-high 18.7 offensive rebounds per game, including the two highest offensive rebound performances in the group phase (24 vs. Cyprus, 23 vs. Belgium).
The Orange Lions opened knockout play with a 29-point victory over Georgia before overcoming a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Czechia 78-66 in the semifinal and secure promotion to Division A for the first time since 2019.
Fanning previously coached the Netherlands U18s at the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket Division B, going 4-3, finishing ninth with a 67-62 win over Croatia.
