The Cougars and Trojans will compete for the first time since 2023 on Saturday evening.

PROVO, Utah – No. 9 BYU women’s soccer (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) hosts USC at South Field Saturday evening for the 2026 home opener.

THE COUGARS. No. 9 BYU women’s soccer (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) last played at Wisconsin on the road, falling 1-0 to the Badgers. In the 80th minute, Wisconsin earned a penalty kick. Initially punched out by BYU keeper Chelsea Peterson, the Badgers crashed the box and found the back of the net for the late game-winner. Despite the loss, the Cougars outshot the Badgers 12-9, with four shots on target. BYU freshman Brynnli Tolbert was recognized by the Big 12 conference as the first Freshman of the Week following her goal against UCLA last week.

THE TROJANS. USC (0-1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) last played Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. and tied 1-1. The Trojans took an early lead with a goal in the 17th minute before Pepperdine converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute for the 1-1 draw. USC’s goalkeeper had six saves in the match as Pepperdine fired off seven shots on frame.

COUGARS VS. TROJANS. BYU and USC have played a total of 11 times, with the series tied at 4-4-3. The teams last played at South Field in 2023 when then-No. 1 BYU beat the Trojans 1-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, courtesy of a goal by former BYU forward Bella Folino.
