THE COUGARS. BYU women’s soccer (5-2-2, 1-0-1 Big 12) beat No. 23 UCF 3-1 in its Big 12 home opener Thursday night. Mia Goettsche scored at the 1:12 mark, tying the eighth-fastest goal in BYU soccer history to get things going for the Cougars. Afton Perry and Mika Krommenhoek scored their first goals of the season, and Lucy Kesler, Bella Woods, Presley Freeman and Krommenhoek tallied assists. The Cougars had a season-high 24 shots and nine shots on frame against the Knights.
THE HORNED FROGS. TCU (4-3-1, 1-1 Big 12) beat Utah 1-0 on Thursday night at Ute Field. The Horned Frogs outshot the Utes 11-8, but only put two shots on fame compared to Utah’s five. In an aggressive Big 12 matchup, there were 36 total fouls, 22 of which were on TCU. The Horned Frogs scored in the 32nd minute and held onto that 1-0 lead through the remainder of the match. TCU’s goalkeeper made four crucial saves to keep the shutout.
COUGARS VS. HORNED FROGS. BYU and TCU have played 14 times, with BYU leading the series 9-3-2. The teams last faced in the first round of the 2025 Big 12 Tournament, when the eighth-seeded BYU advanced on PKs after tying the top-seeded Horned Frogs 2-2 on their home pitch. The last matchup on South Field was BYU’s first-ever Big 12 game across all sports in 2024. That game ended in a 3-3 draw. BYU has not beat TCU since 2010.
