David Timmins joins men’s golf coaching staff

PROVO, Utah — BYU head coach Todd Miller announced the addition of former Cougar David Timmins to the men’s golf coaching staff on Wednesday.

Timmins will serve as a volunteer assistant coach and assist with team scheduling, practices, goal setting, mentoring and communication with program donors and alumni.

“As a player, David was one of the most organized, goal-oriented and driven players we have ever had,” Miller said. “I am so grateful to have his influence on our coaching staff and, more importantly, with our players.”

Timmins played three seasons at BYU from 2020 to 2023 after transferring from Westminster College. He competed in 36 events and recorded 15 top-25 finishes, including seven top-10s and four top-five marks. He was a three-time NCAA Division I GCAA All-America Scholar and made NCAA Championship appearances in 2022 and 2023.

After graduating with a degree in communications studies in 2023, Timmins turned professional. He made three PGA Tour Canada starts and competed in several open tournaments. He later regained his amateur status and continues to play competitive golf, advancing to the Round of 32 at the 2026 Utah State Amateur Championship.

“The opportunity I was given to represent BYU as a player was one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life,” Timmins said. “I am excited to represent the university as a coach and help this team achieve its full potential.”

Timmins will continue to serve as director of sales for Primo Golf Apparel. He is from Sandy, Utah, and currently resides in Cedar Hills, Utah, with his wife, Kiara, and their 1-year-old daughter, Capri Jo.
