THE COUGARS. BYU women’s soccer (8-3-2, 4-1-1 Big 12) went 1-1 on the road last weekend, falling 2-0 at West Virginia and beating the Bearcats 1-0. In the Cincinnati matchup on Monday night, senior defender Bella Woods scored off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. She has scored BYU’s last two goals, both of which were set pieces and game-winning goals. Starting goalkeeper Chelsea Peterson suffered a concussion in the game against the Mountaineers, so Paiton Collins stepped up and started for the Cougars against the Bearcats, securing BYU’s fourth shutout victory of the year, first on the road.
THE RED RAIDERS. Texas Tech (9-0-4, 5-0-1 Big 12) has won five-straight matches to take the top spot in the Big 12 rankings. On the road, the Red Raiders are 3-0-2. They last played TCU in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday afternoon, winning 1-0. Texas Tech leads the league with most goals scored (13) and fewest goals allowed (3) coming into Friday’s match. Tech is one of four teams left nationally that are unbeaten so far this season.
COUGARS VS. RED RAIDERS. BYU and Texas Tech have played twice, with BYU leading the overall series 1-0-1. The teams last played in 2024 when the Cougars beat the Red Raiders 2-1 in Lubbock, Texas. In 2023, the teams were tied seventh nationally and played to a 2-2 draw at South Field. BYU looks for its first home victory over Texas Tech Friday night.
