STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 5 BYU Men’s Cross Country team opens championship season on Saturday at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships.

Date: Saturday, October 31

Time: 10:00 A.M. MDT

Course: The Greiner Family Cross Country Course

It will be the team’s first trip to the Greiner Family Course since their 2022 victory in the Cowboy Jamboree. Junior Land Lambert is the only Cougar who has raced on the course before, making it a brand new course for nine of BYU’s ten runners on Saturday.

The Cougars have placed in the top four in the Big 12 Championship race every year since joining the conference and come into this year’s race ranked only behind No. 3 Colorado and reigning champion No. 2 Oklahoma State.

BYU has not run against Oklahoma State yet on the season, but did get a look at Colorado and No. 20 Iowa State in the Nuttycombe Invitational earlier in the month. BYU came in just one spot behind Colorado in that race.

Tayvon Kitchen, James Corrigan, Noah Jenkins, Dalton Mortensen and Carter Cutting all return from last year’s Big 12 Championship roster that took fourth. Kitchen, Corrigan and Jenkins finished as BYU’s top three scorers and will look to do so again this year. They will be joined by Isaac Hedengren, Hunter Kitchen, Jefferson McMullin, Lambert and Malachi Schoenherr.

It will be the first time the Cougars run at full speed since capturing the team title at the John McNichols Invitational in September where the Cougars placed all five scorers in the top 20.

The race will be streamed live on ESPN+.
