Akina, Fishburn, Blair inside cut line as darkness suspends Bank of Utah Championship second round

IVINS, Utah — BYU men’s golfer Kihei Akina and former Cougars Patrick Fishburn and Zac Blair are inside the top 56 after darkness suspended the second round of the PGA Tour’s Bank of Utah Championship on Friday at Black Desert Resort.

Akina carded consecutive rounds of 67 on the par-71 course to sit tied for 35th at 8-under after 36 holes. Akina is the only amateur golfer inside the top 56.

Fishburn is also 8-under after rounds of 66 and 68, while Blair is just inside the cut line at 6-under after rounds of 66 and 70.

Akina opened the first round with bogeys on Nos. 10 and 13 before responding with three birdies to move to 1-under before the turn. The sophomore then added three consecutive birdies on Nos. 7-9 to close the round with a 4-under 67.

Akina followed his opening-round performance with another 4-under 67 in the second round. After birdies on Nos. 5 and 7, he added three more birdies and a bogey on the back nine to remain two strokes inside the cut line.

Fishburn fired four birdies and a bogey on the back nine to open the first round. He added four more birdies and a double bogey on the front nine to card a 5-under 66.

Fishburn followed with a 3-under 68 in the second round, making five birdies and two bogeys. He is tied for 35th at 8 under alongside Akina and is two strokes inside the cut line.

Blair opened the tournament with a 5-under 66, making seven birdies and a double bogey. After making four birdies and three bogeys in the second round for a 1-under 70, he remains just inside the cut line at 6 under.

BYU alumni Carson Lundell, Rhett Rasmussen and Tyson Shelley also competed but are several strokes outside the cut line.

Lundell (70-72-142) finished at even par and is tied for 107th, six strokes outside the top 56.

Rasmussen (72-72-144) finished at 2-over and is in 111th place, while Shelley (66-79-145) is tied for 112th at 3-over.

The second round will conclude Saturday at 9 a.m. MT, with three players remaining on the course. The field will then be cut to the top 56 and ties, with the third round to follow.

Third-round tee times will be announced following the conclusion of the second round Saturday. Live scoring is available at pgatour.com.
