IRVING, Texas – BYU safety Faletau Satuala was today named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his role in then-No. 10 ranked BYU’s 17-10 win at TCU on Saturday.
Satuala, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior from Bountiful, Utah, intercepted TCU quarterback Jaden Craig in the second quarter and returned it 59 yards to the Horned Frogs’ 16-yard line, setting up BYU’s first touchdown of the game and a 7-0 lead.
In addition to the interception, Satuala had four tackles, including one for a loss and was in the TCU backfield creating havoc throughout the game.
Through four games in 2026, Satuala is second on the team in tackles with 16 and is one of six BYU defensive players to have an interception. He also has recorded two tackles for loss.
Prior to the 2026 season, Satuala was named to the preseason watch list for the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. He was also named Preseason All-America by Athlon Sports and was honored as Preseason All-Big 12 by Phil Steele, Athlon Sports, Pro Football Network and Sports Info Solutions.
Last year, Satuala was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and Lott Trophy Player of the Week on Oct. 27, for his role in helping BYU defeat Iowa State in Ames to improve to 8-0 on the year.
Satuala played in all 14 games for BYU in 2025, leading the team with 78 tackles and two forced fumbles, while collecting three interceptions and 7.5 tackles for loss, en route to being named second-team All-America by the Football Writers Association of America. He also earned All-Big 12 honors by the conference.
Through five weeks of the 2026 season, five BYU football players have earned six Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
