MADISON, Wisc. - The BYU Men’s Cross Country program is heading to Wisconsin to compete in the Nuttycombe Invitational for the fifth year in a row on Friday.
Date: Friday, Oct. 9
Time: 10:10 a.m. MDT (A Race),11:30 a.m. MDT (B Race)
Course: Thomas Zimmer Championship Course
The Cougars are undefeated heading into the final race of the regular season, including a team victory in their last race at the John McNichols Invitational. Like the McNichols, the Nuttycombe will feature a highly-competitive national field, consisting of 17 of the top 25 teams in the USTFCCCA Coaches’ Poll.
The race is also an opportunity for BYU to get a look at its Big 12 competitors, including No. 2 Iowa State and No. 6 Colorado. The Big 12 championship race is the next race on the schedule after the Nuttycombe Invitational.
All five of BYU’s scorers from its victory in Indiana—Tayvon Kitchen, Noah Jenkins, James Corrigan, Dalton Mortensen and Isaac Hedengren—have run on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in previous years, providing a sense of familiarity.
Kitchen is looking to build off an impressive start to the year as the Cougars’ low stick, including a third-place finish in the McNichols. Both runners that placed ahead of Kitchen, Florida's Kelvin Cheruiyot and Louisville's Elsingi Kipruto, will be competing in the Nuttycombe as well.
It is only the second race of the year for both Corrigan and Hedengren, each looking to build off of top-20 finishes in their season debut. Jenkins and Mortensen have joined Kitchen as scorers in both of the Cougars’ victories thus far.
Streaming will be available on RunnerSpace+, with live results available on Primetime Timing.
