COSTA MESA, Calif. — After two tough losses at home to Pepperdine last weekend, No. 10 BYU men's volleyball plays two MPSF matches at Vanguard, who have won four straight matches, on Thursday and Friday.
About the Cougars
The Cougars come into the week with a record of 17-8 this season and 4-4 in MPSF play.
The losses to Pepperdine last weekend both came in four sets after the teams started 1-1 both nights, Pepperdine closing out the third and fourth sets in both matches. All eight of BYU's losses this season has come to teams in the top-15 nationally, with six against teams in the top-six.
Trent Moser's 3.25 kills per set continues to lead the Cougars. He's hitting .333. Tyler Herget is averaging 10.10 assists per set, second best in the MPSF and seventh nationally. Gavin Chambers is averaging exactly 1.00 blocks per set, which is third-best in the MPSF.
About the Lions
The Lions have won four straight matches, all against MPSF foes. They swept UC Merced in two matches at home March 13 and 14 and then pulled off two five-set victories at Jessup last weekend.
Overall this season, Vanguard has a record of 8-11 and 4-4 in conference play. The Lions' marquee win this season came at No. 9 UC San Diego.
Cole Oliver leads Vanguard offesnively with 2.68 kills per set and a .412 hitting percentage, the eighth-best mark in the MPSF. Brock Henderson is averaging 7.43 assists per set as setter. Braddock Duckworth leads the team with 0.738 blocks per set.
