Jay VanNoy, all-time athletic great from Utah State was hired in the fall of 1956 at BYU as head baseball coach and assistant freshman football coach. VanNoy comes with full background in baseball, professional and otherwise.
VanNoy is a native of Garland, Utah, was all-conference halfback for the Aggies for four consecutive seasons. His senior year he was named first team Little All-America and second and third string on many other All-America selections. He also won his share of honors on the basketball court.
In 1950 VanNoy joined the St. Louis Cardinal organization. He played two seasons with the Cards, four in Triple-A competition at Rochester and Columbus. He participated in two Little World Series.
