Jessica Purcell - Softball - Sophomore - La Puenta, Calif.
Purcell led BYU with a 11 RBI at the Red Desert Classic. To begin the season she belted out three home runs in as many games, including a grand slam against Southern Utah, which gave way to a huge 6-0 Cougar lead in the top of the sixth inning. The grand slam was a career first for the sophomore. Purcell was perfect behind the plate, with an errorless performance, catching all but one inning. Against No. 12/13 Tennessee she recorded two of BYU's three hits, including a single in the second inning and a double in the ninth inning. Against No. 21/15 Washington she hit a long ball that was caught over the fence that would have given way to a second grand slam of the weekend and tied score.
