BYU vs. UVU Game Notes

Junior right-hander Jarod Lessar (1-1, 4.66 ERA) will start for the Cougars while junior right-hander Matt Dalke (1-0, 5.40) will start for the Wolverines. The Cougars lead the all-time series, 27-9, and have won the last six games between the two teams.

The Cougars' 7-3 record is the best start to a season through 10 games since 2016 when the Cougars started 9-1. BYU most recently came off a trip at Lamar where the Cougars went 2-1 on the week. The Wolverines enter the game with a season record of 2-8.

BYU’s pitching staff has shined early this season. BYU currently boasts the No. 15 WHIP in the nation at 1.09, with sophomore right-hander Easton Walker leading the country in the category with a WHIP of 0.39. The Cougar pitchers have allowed three or fewer runs in nine of 10 games this year, including each of the last six.

Senior catcher Noah Hill led the Cougars last week, going 6-for-10 to push his season batting average to .387 (12-for-31). Hill is currently on a career best seven-game hitting streak. Sophomore outfielder Jackson Cluff also had a good week at Lamar, going 5-for-11 with six RBIs, five runs and two walks. Cluff has reached base safely in every game this season, joining senior outfielder Brock Hale as the only two Cougars to do so.
