McIntyre named WCC and Collegiate Baseball News Player of the Week

SAN MATEO, Calif. – BYU centerfielder Mitch McIntyre was named the UCU West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in four games last week. McIntyre was also honored by Collegiate Baseball News as one of its National Players of the Week.

The senior from Stansbury Park, Utah, led the Cougars to a 2-1 series victory over WCC foe Pepperdine in the final weekend of the 2021 season.

In 16 at bats over four games McIntyre had nine hits, including three home runs and a double to go with six walks. He also scored seven runs, had five RBI and amassed 19 total bases.

McIntyre had at least one hit and a walk in every game, with four hits and two HRs in the season finale versus the Waves. For the week he hit .563 with an OBP of .682 and a slugging percentage of 1.18.                                            

A 2021 team captain, McIntyre started all 50 games for BYU during the season. He hit .318, scored 29 runs, had 29 RBI and collected 21 extra base hits. The WCC Player of the Week award is the first of his BYU career.

McIntyre has been a mainstay in the Cougar lineup for the past four years. He played in 162 of the 166 BYU games during his career, collected 157 hits, including 37 doubles, seven triples and 12 home runs. He also had 89 RBI and scored 92 times.
