PROVO, Utah - Approximately 200 high school coaches from various parts of the country took part in BYU's high school coaching clinic and watched the BYU football team finish its third week of spring practice.

"I am very pleased with where we are from an effort standpoint, from a hustle standpoint, from a desire standpoint," head coach Bronco Mendehall. "With the focus being almost primarily on that, the execution is still a ways away behind but we are capable."

With another week before the March 30th spring scrimmage, the team is anxious to show the progress made in spring so far.

"I think right now the team is working so hard, next Saturday just seems like a month away to them," Mendenhall said. "They still have two practices to get through before then."

Inside due to Friday's inclement weather, several players continued to make plays and improve during the session.

Defensive back Jordan Johnson had two pass breakups during the 7-on-7 portion of practice, one of the breakups coming on a deep pass over the middle to save a touchdown. Safety Daniel Sorensen also had a pass breakup along with linebacker Teu Kautai.

Converted tight end Austin Holt had an interception off a deflected pass and defensive end Remington Peck recorded a sack.

On the offensive side, both quarterbacks Ammon Olsen and Taysom Hill led touchdown drives in skelly. Olsen went 4 of 5 on his drive, finishing with a 15-yard strike to tight end Richard Wilson. Hill went 3 of 4 on his series and found wideout Eric Thornton for a 38-yard catch-and-run touchdown.

Running back Jamaal Williams broke through the middle for a 15-yard run to convert a third down and wide receiver Cody Raymond snagged a 20-yard pass in 11-on-11.

High school coaches participating in the day-long clinic with the BYU football staff came from Florida, Ohio, Texas, California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah.

BYU will have two practices next week before a scrimmage at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. MDT.
