Brigham Young University and the University of Oregon today announced the two football programs will meet on Sept. 10, 2022, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.
“It’s a great opportunity to play an outstanding football team from the Pac 12,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “Oregon had an opening in its 2022 schedule and the circumstance was right for BYU. We hope to develop a long-term relationship with Oregon.”
BYU and Oregon have previously played six times in football, with each team winning three times. The Ducks won the first meeting 20-13 on September 19, 1964, in Eugene, while the Cougars won the last meeting 38-8 on Dec. 21, 2006, at the Las Vegas Bowl.
Oregon was founded in 1876 and began playing football in 1894. Since 2009, Oregon has won the Pac-12 Conference Championship four times and played in the National Championship game twice. In addition, the Ducks have played in five FCP/BCS bowls over the last six years and are tied for the nation’s longest string of 10-win seasons at seven.
BYU played its first season of intercollegiate football in 1922. Over the past 40 seasons, the Cougars have appeared in 33 bowl games, won 23 conference championships and are No. 5 in total wins among all FBS programs with 356 victories. Under head coach Bronco Mendenhall, BYU has been ranked in the Top 25 during nine of the past 11 seasons, while appearing in 10 straight bowl games.
The broadcast plans and kickoff time will be announced at a later date. For more information on BYU football, visit BYUcougars.com.
