SATICOY, Calif. – Cole Ogden's second-place finish after the first round put BYU men’s golf in a tie for third place at the West Coast Conference Championships on Monday.

“We had a couple of guys play really well today,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “But we definitely need to upgrade our scores a little bit. We didn’t putt particularly well. For CJ (Lee) to come out and hit 76 helped the team a lot, but we have to find a way to move up the leaderboard a little bit.”

The Cougars are in a tie for third place with Pacific at 21-over-par after day one. San Francisco is leading the nine teams in first place, shooting 15-over-par as a team. Loyola Marymount’s Connor Campbell is currently in first place individually, shooting one-under-par.

Tied for second place, Cole Ogden had a strong first day of competition, shooting two-over-par. He shot 74 in the first round.

The two freshmen came up big for BYU. CJ Lee shot four-over-par to put him in a tie for 11th place. Zach Pritchard is currently tied for 23rd, shooting seven-over-par.

Both Tommy Higham and Jordan Rodgers are tied for 27th, shooting eight-over-par. Rodgers was recently named to the 2014-15 WCC All-Academic Team.
