FRESNO, Calif. – Behind a second place individual finish from sophomore Patrick Fishburn, the Cougars are tied for sixth place after the first day of the Nick Watney Invitational.

"I saw some great things from our team today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We started off both rounds strong and we birdied a lot of holes, but we also hit some bad shots and gave back some of those good putts we made."

Fishburn’s nine-under-par second place finish through 36 holes makes for his best back-to-back rounds of play in his collegiate career. He birdied 10 holes on the day.

"Patrick had a great day. He is playing great golf. He really showed what he is capable of today," Brockbank said.

West Coast Conference opponent St. Mary’s is currently in first place at 15-under-par after 36 holes of play. San Diego is tied with the Cougars at three-under-par, while Loyola Marymount is in 11th place at six-over-par and Pacific is in last place at 14-over-par.

Sophomore Zach Pritchard ended the day tied for 24th at even par. CJ Lee shot a 76 in Round 1 and then shot a 70 (-1) in Round 2. He is currently tied for 50th at four-over-par. Spencer Dunaway shot +5 through the first two rounds of play and is tied for 55th with teammate Dalton Stanger, who is competing in the event as an individual. As a team, the Cougars birdied 37 holes on the day.

BYU will play its third and final round, Tuesday. Live stats can be found on the BYU men’s golf schedule page.
