SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Freshman Jacob Sullivan secured the singles win, but BYU men’s tennis fell to 67th-ranked Santa Clara, 6-1, in West Coast Conference play, Saturday.

The momentum from the Cougars’ (8-13, 2-4 WCC) comeback win on Friday did not carry over in the loss to the Broncos (12-5, 3-3 WCC).

The Australian Sullivan posted the lone win for BYU by taking care of Michael Tjuatjadarma at sixth singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Fellow freshman Matthew Pearce fell for the first time in six matches as he was ousted in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(4).

In doubles action Pearce teamed with junior Francis Sargeant at the No. 2 spot to beat Ashot Khacharyan and Mikheil Khmiadashvili, 8-2.
