PROVO, Utah – Home runs from Ashley Thompson and Alexa Strid led BYU softball to a 16-1 win over the College of Southern Idaho on Friday night.

“We played well in all three areas of the game,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “We had an opportunity to gain valuable experience that will help them in the future.”

Thompson got the offense going in the first inning, hitting a three-run home run in her first at-bat. In the fifth inning, Strid hit another three-run home run to extend the Cougar lead. Caitlyn Larsen also had a good outing at the plate, going 3 for 4.

Arianna Paulson, McKenna Bull and Olivia Sanchez split the pitching duties in the scrimmage. Combined, they allowed four hits and one run.

Next week, the Cougars’ fall scrimmage schedule continues with Utah Valley University and Salt Lake Community College on Oct. 7 and 9, respectively. Both games start at 5 p.m. MDT and are open to the public.
