BYU Beats Loyola-Marymount, 59-49

LAWRENCE -- Rebounding from a tough loss to ninth-ranked UC-Santa Barbara, the BYU women's basketball team beat Loyola-Marymount, 59-49, in the consolation game of the Jayhawk Classic Saturday in Kansas.

BYU (5-1) held Loyola-Marymount to just 24 percent shooting to its 41 percent. The Cougars were led by senior forward Jill Adams, who scored 18 points. Freshman guard Erin Thorn added 16, while forward Cady Williams contributed 12 points. Thorn, who averaged 13 points in both tournament games, was also named to the all-tournament team as BYU's lone representative.

"It was a tough game for us, having lost last night and playing on a neutral floor," BYU head coach Trent Shippen said. "It was a good wiwin for us on the road against a good team."

Freshman Jennifer Leitner also had a strong game for the Cougars, pulling down a career-high 16 rebounds off the bench. BYU as a whole outrebounded Loyola-Marymount, 47-39.

Loyola-Marymount (3-2) was led by guard Rosa Bernasconi, who scored 18 points in the loss. Bernasconi was also named to the all-tournament team.

Next on the Cougars' 10-day road trip is Marquette, who the Cougars will face on Monday.
