PROVO, Utah – BYU gymnastics head coach Guard Young announced the signing of three new gymnasts on Wednesday.
Sadie Miner, Lexi Griffith and Rebekah Bean each signed their National Letters of Intent for the BYU gymnastics 2018-19 season.
Sadie Miner is an All-American gymnast from Mapleton, Utah. She attended Maple Mountain High School and trained at All American Gymnastics with coaches Jimmy Pratt and Dawn Johnson. Miner competes in all four events. She signed with BYU to receive a great education, be close to home and have her sister, Abbey Miner, on the team.
“It’s kind of fun that we recruited Abby and her younger sister came along,” Young said. “They are very close in terms of a sister relationship, so I think they’re looking forward to being on the same gymnastics team. They are a great family and great gymnasts.”
Miner is currently in her sixth year as a Level 10. She has competed in regionals every year at that level. Miner qualified for the Nastia Liukin Cup in 2015 and won all-around at NIT that same year.
Lexi Griffith is an all-around competitor from Metroplex Gymnastics in Dallas, Texas, one of the most well-known gyms in the nation.
“For us to get into that gym and get Lexi is a big win for the Cougars,” Young said. “She’s a very accomplished gymnast from an accomplished gym, and we’re excited about that relationship leading to some of her teammates in the future.”
Griffith attends Plano East Senior High School and trains at Metroplex Gymnastics with Marnie Futch and Debbie Bonds. She chose to sign with BYU because of the school's combination of outstanding academics and amazing athletics.
Rebekah Bean comes from Desert Hills High School in St. George, Utah. She competes in all events, but vault has always been her favorite. Bean has always choreographed her own routines and loves doing it.
“We see a ton of potential and a really high ceiling with Rebekah,” said Young. “Her athleticism is off the charts. She can do things in gymnastics that other gymnasts just can’t do. She’s going to be a high-power, big-skill gymnast for BYU.”
Bean recently switched from Champion Gymnastics to Barefoot Gymnastics with her coaches, Megan Tabla and Caleb Phillips. She was the Western National Champion for Level 9 in 2016.
