BYU Gymnastics Announces Three New Signees

PROVO, Utah – BYU gymnastics head coach Guard Young announced the signing of three gymnasts this week. The signing period opened on Nov. 9 and closes on Aug. 1, 2023.

“We are really excited to welcome three kids who are huge BYU fans into our program,” said Young. "These gymnasts already have teammates in our program, so we feel really connected to what they are doing at the high school level right now, and we love that.”

Mya Kirkham

The 5-foot-4 Alpine, Utah, native attends Lone Peak High School and trains at Olympus Gymnastics. “Mya is a well-rounded gymnast,” said coach Young. “We expect her to be competent in the all-around position for our team right off the bat, which is super exciting for us.”

Notable Accomplishments:

  • 2x National Qualifier
  • First Place Vault Regionals
  • First Place Floor Regionals
  • Third Place All-Around 2022 Regionals

Brynlee Andersen

The 4-foot-11 Orem, Utah, native attends Timpanogos High School and competes for Bold Gymnastics. “Brynlee is a showman,” said coach Young. “She loves the floor and loves to dance. Once Brogan Evanson can start choreographing for her, there are going to be some really exciting floor routines.”

  • Second all-around at 2022 Nationals
  • Third place beam at 2022 Nationals
  • Third place all-around at 2022 Regionals
  • Third place floor at 2022 Regionals
  • Utah State 2022 Champion

Ava Jorgensen

The 5-foot-5 Gilbert, Arizona, native attends Perry High School and competes for Gold Medal Gymnastics. Jorgensen was also recruited by Arizona and Towson. “Ava comes to our program highly ranked at the national level,” said Young. “She has a really calm and kind personality, and will be a stable influence on her events as a Cougar.”

  • 2022 National Bar Champion
  • Third place all-around at 2022 Nationals 
  • National Team member
  • 2022 State All-Around champion
  • Maintained a 3.9 GPA

These three new girls will join a BYU squad that finished the 2022 season as the No. 24 team in the nation and finished at the top of the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference with a 6-3 MRGC record.
