BYU hosts No. 1 Stanford and Idaho State

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women's soccer team hosts No. 1 Stanford on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. MDT for the home opener and then Idaho State on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. MDT.

BYU Storylines

The Cougars (1-1-1) look to bounce back after tying Nebraska 2-2 and falling short 2-0 at No. 9 Texas A&M last week. Against the Huskers, Lizzy Braby and Mikayla Colohan scored late goals in the second half to even the game at 2-all before two scoreless overtime periods. BYU combined for 29 shots and nine on goal in the two games.

Madie Siddoway Gates, Braby and Colohan have all found the back of the net once. Colohan leads the team with 14 shots and four on goal, while Gates has recorded 13 shots and eight on frame. Braby, Elise Flake and Cameron Tucker have each taken five shots in the three games.

Cassidy Smith played all 90 minutes against Texas A&M, tallying two saves in the game for a total of eight saves on the season. Sabrina Macias Davis has played 97 minutes and has two saves.

No. 1 Stanford Storylines

The Cardinal are the 2017 NCAA National Champions after beating UCLA 3-2 and finishing the season with a 22-game win streak. This season, Stanford has claimed wins over UC Davis and San Francisco, scoring five goals in each game.

After losing only three seniors, the Cardinal will turn to sophomore Catarina Macario, who led the nation with 50 points and 16 assists as a freshman in 2017.

Civana Kuhlmann and Macario each have two goals, while five other players have managed to find the back of the net once.

Series Information

The series is tied 3-3 after Stanford beat the Cougars 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2015.

Idaho State Storylines

The Bengals fell 2-1 to UTEP in the season opener and then 5-0 to New Mexico. They host Wyoming before traveling to Provo to play the Cougars. 

Idaho State returns 17 letterwinners, including six starters. Junior Makena Bambei led the team in 2017 with five goals and one assist for 11 points. Freshman Lauren Bollinger has scored the lone goal this season against UTEP.
