BYU Sweeps Montana Soccer Showdown

Sept. 6, 1999 - The BYU women's soccer team completed a two-game sweep at the Montana Soccer Showdown Monday by posting a 3-2 victory over the University of Montana before a crowd of over 1,000.

Junior midfielder Natalyn Orchard-Lewis led the Cougars with two goals to follow up the team's win Saturday against Northwestern. Junior Kim Lowe chipped in a goal as well to aid in the Cougar effort.

BYU's Sarah Hingham and Karen Robbins-Wunderli also contributed to the victory with an assist apiece.

The Cougars exploded in the first half, scoring all three of their goals in the first thirty minutes. The Grizzlies benefited from an own goal by the Cougars early in the first half, but did not respond on their own until Jodi Campbell scored midway through the second.

A stingy BYU defense held Montana to just four shots on goal, with only one shot allowed in the second half. The Grizzlies allowed 28 shots in their first defeat of the season.

BYU improved its record to 3-0 this season, while Montana fell to 1-1. The Cougars open their 1999 home season this Thursday against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 5 p.m.
