Cougars Look to Keep Winning Streak Alive

PROVO -- The BYU women's soccer team (4-0-0) stays in Provo this weekend for the last two games of their four-game home stand. The Cougars will challenge the University of Denver (1-1-1) on Friday at 7 p.m., and No. 22 University of Texas on Monday. Game time is slated for 8 p.m., and will be televised on BYUTV. The games will be played at South Stadium. Monday's game is Campus FHE Night.

The University of Denver women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season by defeating the Northeastern Huskies, 3-0 in the consolation match of the Denver Soccer Classic on Sunday. Sophomore's Taryn Hemmings, Rachael Fry and Kyle McFarlane each scored goals for the Pioneers.

Taryn Hemmings and Rachael Fry lead the Pioneers in scoring with two goals apiece. Hemmings has also tallied the most points by also assisting for two goals. Goalkeeper Danielle Wiley has saved 12 shots in 290 minutes of action.

The University of Texas received national recognition in three soccer polls this week. NSCAA/adidas picked Texas at No. 22, while Soccer America an Soccer Buzz chose them as No. 24.

Although outshooting the Spartans by a 16-9 margin for the match and 5-3 during the two overtime periods, Texas settled for a 0-0 tie with Michigan State in front of 550 fans at Old College Field on Sunday. With the tie, the Longhorns earned their third shutout in four matches this year.

Kelsey Carpenter fronts Longhorn offensive attack with two goals on the season. Erin Davis and Julie Gailey lead Texas with two assists apiece. Goalkeepers Dana Hall and Dianna Pfenninger have each recorded nine saves.
