BYU falls to Washington 7-0

SEATTLE, Wash. – BYU women's tennis finished its weekend road trip to Washington on Saturday, falling to the Huskies 7-0.

BYU struggled against Washington in the doubles matches as the Huskies went 3-0. BYU senior Anastasia Abramyan and freshman Bobo Huang kept their match close before falling 6-4 to Vanessa Wong and Hikaru Sato in the No. 1 position. Junior Helen Jiao and freshman Madison Smith were defeated by Zoey Weil and Kelly Leung 6-2 in the No. 3 position. Rounding off the doubles matches, senior Leah Heimuli and freshman Jacque Dunyon were swept by Nika Zupancic and Sarah-Maude Fortin, falling 6-0.

BYU’s struggles continued into the singles matches as Jiao was the lone Cougar to win a set in her match, before falling to Weil 4-6, 6-1 (10-5). Heimuli lost her match to Wong, along with Smith being defeated by Leung, both with a 6-2, 6-2 scorea. Dunyon fell 6-2, 6-0 to the Huskies’ Fortin, with Abramyan losing to Zupancic 6-2, 6-1 and Huang’s defeat coming from Sato 6-3, 6-1.

The Cougars compete next in the ITA Kickoff in Berkeley, California on Jan. 28 and Jan. 29 at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
